Working Test Judges List Criteria
Below you will find the criteria for becoming a Judge for Newfoundland Club Water and Draught Tests.
If you would like to be considered as a Judge, and believe that you meet these criteria, please apply in writing stating your experience/qualifications to Kevin Clarke, the Chair of the Working Section Sub-committee.
Water Test Judges |
Section A qualifications:
- Submitted a written application to Working Section Sub-Committee detailing previous experience and reasons for wishing to judge.
- Stewarded Sections A & B
- Stewarded at two separate events.
- Handled a dog in Sections A & B

Section B qualifications:
- Stewarded Section B at two events (excluding the above).
- Judged at least 20 dogs at Section A.
- Receive written recommendation from senior Section B qualified Judge.
- Must have been a Senior Section A judge at two events.

Section C qualifications:
- Stewarded Section C at two events.
- Handled a dog in Section C.
- Judged at least 20 dogs at Section B.
- Receive written recommendation from senior Section B qualified Judge.
- Must have been a Senior Section B judge at two events.

Section D qualifications:
- Stewarded or Handled a dog in Section D at three events.
- Judged at least 15 dogs at Section C.
- Receive written recommendation from senior Section C qualified Judge.
- Must have been a Senior Section C judge at two events.

Section E qualifications:
- Stewarded or Handled a dog in Section E at three events.
- Judged at least 10 dogs at Section D.
- Receive written recommendation from senior Section D qualified Judge.
- Must be a Senior Section D judge.

General Notes
- Judging & stewarding may be at NC, NNC & SNC events

Promotion from Novice to Senior or to next level is subject to approval by the
majority at a NC WSSC meeting.
- Judges & Stewards are expected to attend training days as organised.
- First judging appointment to be with a Section C judge or above.

Criteria to move from Novice to Senior judge.
- In Sections A & B, must have judged at least 10 dogs at two events (total 20 dogs) at novice level.
- In Sections A, B, & C, must have judged at novice level at two events.
- In Sections D & E, must have judged at novice level at one event.
- In Sections A, B, & C, must have conducted judges briefing (entrants & Stewards) at novice level at two events.
- In Sections D & E, must have conducted judges briefing (entrants & Stewards) at novice level at one event.

Stewards at Water Tests
- No Steward is permitted to drive the boat without R.Y.A. powerboat 2, relevant experience and insurance.
- Stewards must attend judges and stewards briefing for the relevant section.
- Stewards must have trained a dog and handled a dog in Section A.
- Stewards must have read and understood the Test Regulations.
- Stewards must start at Section A and work through each Section.

Draught Test Judges |
Level Beginners qualifications:
- Submitted a written application to Working Section Sub-Committee detailing previous experience and reasons for wishing to judge.
- Stewarded or handled a dog in Levels Beginners & 1

Level 1 qualifications:
- Stewarded or handled a dog in Level 1 at two events.
- Judged at least 15 dogs at Level Beginners.
- Receive written recommendation from senior Level 1 qualified Judge.
- Must have been a Senior Level Beginners judge at two events.

Level 2 qualifications:
- Stewarded or handled a dog in Level 2 at two events.
- Judged at least 15 dogs at Level 1.
- Receive written recommendation from senior Level 2 qualified Judge.
- Must have been a Senior Level 1 judge at two events.

Level 3 qualifications:
- Stewarded or handled a dog in Level 3 at three events.
- Judged at least 15 dogs at Level 2.
- Receive written recommendation from senior Level 2 qualified Judge.
- Must have been a Senior Level 2 judge at two events.

Level 4 qualifications:
- Stewarded or Handled a dog in Level 4 at three events.
- Judged at least 15 dogs at Level 3.
- Receive written recommendation from senior Level 3 qualified Judge.
- Must be a Senior Level 3 judge.

- Judging and Stewarding may be at NC, NNC & SNC events

Criteria to move from Novice to Senior judge

In Levels Beginners, 1, 2 & 3, must have judged at least 5 dogs at two events (total
10 dogs) at novice level.
- In Level 4, must have judged at least once at novice level.
- Must have conducted judges briefing (entrants & Stewards) at novice level at two events.

Stewards at Draught Tests
- Stewards must attend judges and stewards briefing for the relevant level.
- Stewards must have read and understood the Test Regulations.
- Stewarding at each level must include being a call and haul steward
