Draught Level 1

Really nice day for an early spring test.
We had 7 entries – two of which just missed out on passing the control section
The other 5 went on to the manoeuvring section –
Unfortunately, one refused to leave his other owner during the exercise and was withdrawn from the test.
The other 4 went on to the haul section and had very good passes.
Well done!
Rachel and I would like to thank Manvers Lake Working Newfoundland’s for hosting the test on behalf of the Newfoundland Club.

Draught Level 2
Judges: Sue Sanders & Greg Roffe
Two first time Level 2 dogs were entered this morning,
Both did very well, and they were successful.
Both lost a few points in the control section but did well on a very tight manoeuvring course that was short, but challenging.
Our haul was just over 2 miles with a mixture of rural and urban areas and as it was a sunny day, multiple dogs worked well together as teams
And I am sure with a few more level 2 passes secured, they will progress to higher levels.
We would like to thank Rachel Saunders as Test Manager, Simon Saunders as our steward on the haul and the whole Manvers Lake Bears for hosting the event.

Draught Level 4
Judges: Marcus Sutherington & Alan Farrar
At the invitation of the Newfoundland Club, I along with my fellow judge Marcus Sutherington had a very enjoyable day judging levels 3 and 4. It was a bright sunny day following weeks of heavy rainfall. Yet the organisers were able to layout an acceptable control area, utilising the firmest grass available to them. However, the Lakeside provided a very good course for the haul with many interesting challenges and options. Three dogs entered level 3 and one undertook level 4 but unfortunately, he was unable to pass the control section. All three level 3 dogs were successful on both the control and manoeuvre sections and along with the level 4 dog set out on a haul of just over 6 kilometres, around the lake and nearby golf course. Despite well laid out trails the wet winter had left extensive areas of mud and standing water, which all of the dogs tackled with enthusiasm and stamina. This was especially evident on some tricky climbs and diversions through the adjacent woodlands where the dogs overcame many obstacles, including steps and fallen logs, together with significant changes in ground and gradient. Eventually two dogs were successful at level 3 with one failing the out of sight down stay. But all four were excellent on the haul despite multiple diversions from passing bikes, pedestrians and dogs a number of which were running free.
Thank you again to the Newfoundland Club for the invitation, the organisers for a great well run day, Marcus, the entrants and their wonderful dogs
